Les Figues Table Linens: Complete!

As you can see in the photographs below, the work we made for the winners of the Les Figues auction is both a decorative valance and a tablecloth with napkins. The tablecloth is soft cotton canvas appliqueed with cotton duck. The napkins are cotton gingham. To make the valance, the tablecloth is tids loosely with the napkins, and then the knots on the napkins are set onto small hooks on the wall.

Pillows!

When our friend Jonny was packing up his California house in preparation for a move to Connecticut, he found a bag of old clothes in his garage. Slated for use as rags, the frayed jeans and stained shirts weren't worth taking across the country. Picking them over, though, it seemed that there was plenty of good fabric for a patchwork pillow. I arranged the patches so that the back side of the worn denim and canvas faces outward for a very soft touch.

Les Figues Table Linens: In Progress

The design we devised for the table linens for the winners of the Les Figues auction combines organic and graphic shapes and contrasts smooth, solid cotton with a more fibrous raw linen. We used large paper templates to cut the fabric appliques. More to come!

Wigutow Office: After

After adding some plants and throw pillows, straightening up the framed posters, and organizing the kitchen area, we declared the project a success! The three screen writers who work in this light-filled space are now much more inclined to use their newly tidy and comfortable common area to eat lunch, make coffee, read, and watch movies. Pillows!

Years ago, my dear friend Saara had a small pillow-making operation with a clever name: Get Down. I was lucky enough to receive a pair of pillows made with a vintage floral silk on one side and a lovely blue taffeta on the other for on my birthday one year. I am sad to say that the floral silk has faded terribly over the years, and the blue taffeta has simply worn away on the corners.

I love this quilt, too. I bough it from Lesley Vance and Ricky Swallow at a yard sale. This beautiful floral print is actually the back side. The front is a patchwork of navy blue, oxblood, and cream wool gabardine squares. But I was ready for a change, and I figured I'd better do something to protect the pillows before it was too late.

My family gave me a wonderful Pendleton blanket last year at Christmastime, so I wanted to use it on my bed. I made some pillow covers out of a red calico with little blue and brown flowers, and my bedroom suddenly felt like a new place.

We will make custom pillow covers for you with the fabric and closure of your choice. Covers start at $40 per pair for ones like the calico ones pictured above. Please contact us to place an order: friendsandrelations@gmail.com
